The harmony between natural teeth or prostheses and gums is called pink aesthetics. In order to achieve pink aesthetics, the gums must be healthy first.
Dental hospital periodontists say “Aesthetics and a beautiful smile can be provided with healthy gums compatible with teeth. Healthy gums are also light pink in color and have a puritanical structure that tightly wraps teeth or prostheses.”
What are the treatment methods of gum aesthetics (Pink Aesthetics)?
In some cases, the appropriate transition between the teeth and the gums that wrap the teeth is disturbed due to gum growths, gum withdrawals or irregular gums, and the situation negatively affects the pink aesthetics. In order to restore this aesthetic, interventions are needed to correct the enlarged gums in accordance with the tooth form or to shape the pulled gums around the tooth again.
Periodontists stated that different treatment options are being applied according to enlarged or pulled gum problems in order to provide pink aesthetics and listed the treatment methods as follows:
“If there are irregularities or growths in the gums, “resectional”, i.e. procedures for cutting and removing the gums are applied. These procedures are gingivectomy (cutting of the gums) and gingivoplasty (correction of the gums). Sometimes in more advanced cases, the bone around the tooth needs to be shaped together with the gums, in which case the gum operation, which we call a flap, should be performed. Pink aesthetic problems caused by gum extraction can be eliminated by “regeneration” (new tissue formation and repair) procedures. It is possible to close gum withdrawals and provide pink aesthetics by applying connective tissue or gum graft of the new gums above the open root surface.”
A thorough examination is essential!
Periodontists continued: “A thorough examination of the specialist is absolutely needed in order to decide pink aesthetic procedures and determine which procedure our patients are more suitable for. In addition to regaining aesthetics with well-performed practices by a specialist, it is ensured that the gums around the tooth acquire their natural form, which allows the teeth and gums to remain healthy for longer in the future.”
Periodontists stated that the treatment time lasts from about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Gums are a tissue that heals very easily with good care and, according to the procedure, it fully heals between 10-21 days.”
