Nail cosmetics, which are frequently preferred by women who want to have well-groomed hands and beautiful-looking nails and do not want to waste time, are frequently preferred with the increase in demand. Here is an A to Z guide that you might want to know about UV nail gel application.
Although applications such as gel nails, permanent nail polish and prosthetic nails make it easier to achieve beautiful looking nails, they also bring some problems. As a result of increasingly widespread practices, there is a significant increase in the number of patients applying to dermatologists due to problems related to nail cosmetics. Nail cosmetics are harmless to health, but it is useful to take some precautions.
Listen to these suggestions before getting your nail cosmetics done:
What should be taken into consideration when applying these methods, which have advantages such as saving time and looking stylish?
1. First of all, make sure that sterile instruments are used during the procedure. It is important both to reduce the risk of infection during the procedure and to control infections that can be transmitted from person to person through blood.
2. During the manicure process, cutting the part of the nail called the cuticle deeply can lead to infections and nail deformities. The cuticle should be protected, if possible, during the procedure.
3. Nails should be cut with appropriate technique. Nails cut improperly can cause ingrown nails.
4. Applications such as gel nails and permanent nail polish should be applied intermittently, not continuously. Methods that put pressure on the nail for a long time can lead to thinning, yellowing, breakage and deformities in the nail plate.
5. Especially in gel nail applications, the UV lamps used are another important issue that should be taken into consideration. UV is a known risk factor for skin cancers; however, the permeability of the nail plate to UV is very low. In other words, the nail plate and underlying tissues are protected from the harmful effects of UV. Therefore, the tissue around the nail must be protected. Long-term, frequent applications may cause problems in the long term. Covering areas other than the nails with a suitable fingerless glove during UV application or applying sunscreen before the procedure will be protective.
What research says: Is There a risk of skin cancer on the hands and nails of young adults on the application of UV nail gel?
According to the research article published on The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology,[2] there have been no cases reported of patients younger than the age of 40 years with a history of chronic gel manicures diagnosed with nonmelanoma skin cancer or melanoma on the dorsum of the hands or nail matrices. SEER revealed little to no change in the incidence of melanoma among patients under the age of 65 years.
Treat your nails periodically and apply sunscreen to your hands.
While having beautiful looking and well-groomed nails, health should also be protected. Such applications; It should be done in reliable centers and by experts under sterile conditions. Intermittent rather than continuous use of applications can reduce side effects. Protecting the areas around the nails when using UV lamps protects against skin cancer in the long term.

UV Nail Gel Polish Application Guide
- Wash your hands and dry them thoroughly.
- Apply sunscreen to your hands 15-30 minutes before the following steps. Avoid getting sunscreen on your nails and wipe off if you do.
- Using the curved side of the Gelous Nail File, gently push back your cuticles. This provides a clean surface for the gel polish to stick to, while creating longer, more even-looking nails.
- Using the fine 180 grit side of the Gelous Nail File, file your nails to the desired shape, making sure the edges of each nail are smooth.
- Using the fine 180 grit side of the Nail File, gently buff the entire surface of each nail. Make sure the whole nail appears dull from the buffing, paying particular attention to the sides of your nails and around the cuticle, as this is where lifting may occur if not buffed correctly.
- Apply Gelous Nail Polish Remover to a Lint Free Wipe and thoroughly clean the surface of your nails, including the area under your nails and around your cuticles. This removes dust and oils on your nails while dehydrating the nail bed, giving the Base Coat a fresh surface to apply to.
